The Australian CAC Boomerang was built in Australia as a short term stop gap measure at the beginning of World War Two. This iconic aircraft served in a number of roles at the start before better aircraft arrived in Australia such as the Kittyhawk and Spitfire. It was well suited as close support for the ground troops.
